I accidentally shrunk a dress in the wash, and now it fits me!

I liked this early 90's smock dress well enough when I found it at Goodwill a few weeks back. It was long and had some inside stains, so I hemmed it and washed it. When it came out, it was a new dress to me.. the smocking had shrunk a bit, leaving this gathered look at the skirt that I just loved. So I tried it on and decided to take some photos with it before I listed it in the shop on Monday, and I'm glad I did. I think I'm going to be spending my entire summer in straw hats and floral dresses from now on.

Lately, I've been stressing myself out with my procrastination. It's one of those weeks where little things add up quickly and before you know it, your To Do list is a mile long, filled with small, mundane tasks like 'clip dog's nails' and 'pay the cable bill'. I don't know where my time is going, but it seems like I can't even fit in little stuff like that. I hate the days when I stay up past 3 in the morning and still feel like I haven't accomplished anything.

My big project this week is the swiss dot dress - I need to finish it for the wedding we're attending on Sunday. As of this afternoon, my loitering has been right on schedule. I've only pinned and cut out all of the pattern pieces.. which leaves marking the pieces and, you know, the sewing part for the rest of today, Friday, and Saturday. Honestly, that should be enough time, even with other things going on in our household.. although I have no idea how to gather a skirt. I've been googling it for days.

On a happy note.. I found this awesome straw hat at Goodwill yesterday! Neil and I did some shopping at American Apparel (I bought cable knit socks!) and Urban Outfitters, and while at Urban, I found the best straw hat.. for 28 dollars. We went to Goodwill afterwards (which, by the way, is the best feeling after shopping at cool, but overpriced, places like American Apparel.. I don't know why more people don't go thrifting, especially now that 90's lace and white denim are so popular.. thrift stores have early 90's style in abundance) and I bought this straw hat for 4 dollars. I added peach lace that I found at the flea market awhile back. Next time, I'm adding black lace.

The shoes are a special surprise from Lisa's lovely Etsy shop, Vintage Shoe Love.. I won a giveaway sponsored by her shop and had a chance to pick out a pair of shoes I wanted, and I ended up choosing this square toed pair! I love the 60's circus-y feel to them. Not to mention, I've been looking for two toned oxfords for awhile.

And speaking of shoes.. Neil and I finished up our taxes and found out we're getting a nice refund, so we're putting the majority into savings and spending a small amount on ourselves. I've decided to spend my money on a good pair of summer sandals. I've never been a big shoe person.. I could never justify spending even 50 dollars on a pair I really loved. The only pair of shoes I own that cost over 50 are my UO thigh high boots, and they were a gift from Neil.

I think I'm going to change that with this pair, however, and I need your help with this decision. I'm choosing between these Jeffrey Campbell Cork Heels or the Madewell Sunset Sandals.. black or brown on either. What do you guys think?
